What to consider when buying a kids’ bed frame
Choosing the right bed frame for your child involves more than just picking a design you like. It’s important to consider both their preferences and the overall quality of the frame to ensure it works well in the long term.
To begin with, involving your child in the decision can make a big difference. Since they’ll be using the bed every day, choosing a style they enjoy can help them feel more comfortable and excited about their own space. A bed frame can also reflect their personality as they grow, making it an important part of their bedroom.
At the same time, durability is key. Children’s bedrooms are often busy and active environments, so a well-built bed frame will stand up to everyday use. Investing in a sturdy, high-quality option means it’s more likely to last as your child grows, even if their tastes change over time.
Which kids’ bed styles can you choose from?
Children’s beds come in a variety of styles designed to suit different ages, room sizes, and everyday needs. Whether you're looking to save space, add storage, or create a more functional bedroom, there are several practical options to choose from.
1.Bunk Beds
Bunk beds are a popular solution for shared bedrooms, allowing two sleeping areas within the footprint of one bed. They help maximise floor space and are ideal for siblings or sleepovers. For safety, the top bunk is generally recommended for children aged six and above.
2.Day Beds
Day beds offer a flexible option for children’s rooms, combining a seating area and a sleeping space in one. They work particularly well in multifunctional rooms or for accommodating guests, while maintaining a clean and stylish look.
3.High Sleepers
High sleeper beds are designed to make the most of vertical space. With the sleeping area elevated, the space underneath can be used for desks, storage units, or wardrobes, making them a great choice for smaller bedrooms.
4.Mid Sleepers
Mid sleepers sit at a lower height than high sleepers, offering a balance between accessibility and functionality. They often include built-in storage or desk space underneath, helping to keep the room organised without taking up extra floor space.
5.Ottoman Beds
Ottoman beds provide a hidden storage solution beneath the mattress base. With a lift-up mechanism, they allow you to store toys, bedding, or clothes neatly out of sight, helping to keep children’s rooms tidy.
6.Trundle Beds
Trundle beds feature an additional pull-out bed stored underneath the main frame. This makes them a convenient option for sleepovers or visiting guests, without needing extra space on a daily basis.

Finally Got The Toys Off The Floor
We bought this bed because my son’s room was getting ridiculous, honestly. Books on the floor, Lego boxes everywhere, school bag dumped by the door, and there was just no space to walk properly. This bed has helped so much because the shelves underneath actually get used every day. He keeps his books, little boxes, football cards and random treasures under there, and for once the room doesn’t look like a bomb has gone off. I also like that the colour is darker, because it doesn’t show every little mark. It feels like a proper “big kid” bed without making the room feel too grown up.
Pretty, Practical And Not Too Babyish
I wanted something pretty for my little girl’s room, but not too babyish. This bed is a lovely balance — the house shape feels sweet and cosy, while the white design still looks clean and grown up. The steps feel safer than a ladder, and the storage underneath is really useful for toys and bedding. It has made her room feel much more finished.
He Actually Keeps His Books In One Place Now
I know this sounds silly, but the best part is that my son finally has somewhere obvious to put his books. Before this, they were in piles beside the bed, under the bed, behind the door, everywhere. Now he keeps them in the shelf area underneath and he likes choosing a book before bedtime. The bed itself looks fun without being too much, and the ladder is easy for him to use. He also absolutely loves the bed frame himself, which makes bedtime a lot easier. It’s made his room feel more like his own little space, not just somewhere to sleep.
The Best Thing We Bought For Storage
This bed has been a lifesaver for storage. My daughter’s room always looked messy because there were clothes, blankets, school things and toys everywhere, and there just wasn’t enough cupboard space. The storage sections under the bed are so useful because you can hide everything away and the room instantly looks calmer. I use one section for bedding, one for clothes she’ll grow into, and another for toys she doesn’t use every day. It’s very practical and makes a small bedroom feel much more manageable.
Helped Us Deal With The Never-Ending Mess
If you have kids, you’ll know the mess never really ends. I wanted a bed that could help contain some of it rather than just taking up more space. This one has been great because all the awkward stuff like books, bags, toys and clothes can go underneath. The room still gets messy, obviously, but it’s much easier to tidy at the end of the day. The bed feels solid and the darker colour works well for a child who is not exactly gentle with furniture.
Made A Small Room Work For Two Kids
We needed to make one bedroom work harder because the kids have to share, and this bed helped massively. The raised design means we can use the space underneath instead of wasting it, and the stairs with shelves give extra storage without needing another bookcase. The kids love the little cosy area below, especially with their soft toys and books. It took a bit of planning to set the room up, but now it feels like we’ve gained space rather than lost it.
Brilliant For Sleepovers And Cousins Staying Over
We bought this for sleepovers and it has been so useful. The stairs feel safer than a ladder, the room still looks bright, and the quality is really good. It feels sturdy and well made. Definitely recommend it for a busy family.
Great For Homework Without Taking Over The Room
We needed a desk in our son’s room, but the room is small and I didn’t want it to feel cramped. This loft bed solved that problem really well. The bed is up top, and underneath he has a desk area for homework, drawing and his laptop. My son also really loves the bed itself, especially having his own little space underneath. It keeps everything in one place and makes the room still feel bright and tidy. We’re really happy with it and would definitely recommend it.
